Here are the current IBL job openings

The International Brain Laboratory has openings for postdoctoral fellows and scientific staff who will play key roles in a new large-scale international collaboration in brain research.

The IBL combines the efforts of approximately 50 scientists in 22 laboratories toward understanding the brain-wide basis of a complex behavior.

The project will involve recording the activity of millions of neurons in the working brain and building mathematical models of the resulting data. The data sets this project will produce are vast and complex, including physiological recordings, behavioural measurements, and video, all of which must be standardized into common formats, integrated into a single database, and subjected to quality control. Core staff positions will support the both experimental and theoretical work through the entire data life cycle, including acquisition, analysis, modeling and dissemination.

Remuneration will be competitive and commensurate with experience. There is considerable flexibility in base location within the U.S. and Europe.

You can find more specific information about the different job openings below.

NEW! Research Software Engineer

The research software engineer will work closely with our scientists to develop and deploy software and electronic hardware for experiment control, collection, storage, and data analysis. The experiments make use of complex control systems including video, audio, and fluidics, the data are processed by sophisticated algorithms including GPU-accelerated deep networks, and then transferred automatically to a central database. The successful candidate will interface with the core software development team based in Lisbon, as well as scientists in our member laboratories (located in London, Lisbon, Geneva, New York City, Long Island, Los Angeles, Princeton, and Seattle) to support experiments and ensure data is of high quality.

The ideal candidate would have experience with Linux, Python, Arduino systems, electronics, team programming, quality assurance, web design, and system administration. A flexible attitude, the ability to quickly adapt to new situations and learn new systems, and to work independently as part of a geographically distributed team, are essential. Experience with scientific research, networking, parallel computing, or relational databases would also be desirable. As this is a distributed collaboration, the candidate will have a home base at one of our member laboratories, but should be prepared to travel to the partner sites.

POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW (PD)

Postdoctoral fellows will participate directly in guiding the experimental, data analytical and/or theoretical aspects of the IBL. Postdocs, though based in individual labs, will be a key part of IBL, and will have the opportunity to collaborate closely with experimental and theoretical labs across IBL. Postdocs will directly benefit from the collaborative nature of the project, given the unique access to resources and experimental/theoretical expertise that it provides. Therefore, they will likely be more productive and have better opportunities for career development than those working in a more "traditional" postdoc role.

Spontaneous applications for POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWS WELCOMED

Please either use the contact form, or contact individual IBL PI’s via their institutional email addresses.

For informal enquiries about being a postdoc within the IBL, feel free to contact the following current IBL postdocs: Charline Tessereau (charline.tessereau[at]internationalbrainlab.org, Dayan Lab, University of Tübingen, Germany), Michael Schartner (michael.schartner[at]unige.ch, Pouget lab, Unige, Switzerland), Nathaniel Miska (nathaniel.miska[at]internationalbrainlab.org, Hofer and Mrsic-Flogel Lab, University College London).
